Yelp Assistant is an AI-powered chat feature that allows users to ask a business certain questions and receive instant replies based on the business’s published information, such as hours, menu, and offered services, as well as content posted by other reviewers. If you’re unsure where to start, Yelp Assistant also provides personalized prompts for each business that you can click to begin chatting.
For service-based businesses, Yelp Assistant has the ability to request quotes from multiple businesses in your area based on the information you provide. For example, users looking to hire a service business can type, “I am looking for a carpet cleaner” and Yelp Assistant is designed to ask tailored follow-up questions to ensure users get connected with qualified businesses in their area.
Yelp Assistant is available on both mobile and web for eligible service-based businesses like general contractors. For other businesses, such as restaurants and retail stores, Yelp Assistant is available on iOS and Android apps.
Yelp Assistant is currently only available in the United States and Canada, and may be unavailable for certain businesses that do not have enough public details or review content (but may become accessible once more information about the business is available).
How do I use Yelp Assistant?
For Service Businesses
After following the steps below, Yelp Assistant will ask several clarifying questions before matching you with several businesses based on your answers. Users can also upload supplemental photos showing their project or issue if photo permissions are enabled on their mobile device.
Note that if you are not already logged into Yelp or do not have a Yelp account, you will be prompted to add your email address where your matches will be sent.
From iPhone/iPad or Android
- At the bottom of the screen, click Projects
- On the bottom right, tap Get help with Yelp Assistant
- On the chat screen, either type in your question or select from one of the prompts
When making general searches for service businesses, such as plumbers or general contractors, the Yelp Assistant feature can also be accessed above the search results.
Users can view a record of service requests they’ve made through Yelp Assistant in their Memories tab via the Yelp app by following the instructions below:
To view or manage Yelp Assistant Memory:
- Click Me on the bottom right
- Scroll down and tap Yelp Assistant Memory
From the Website (yelp.com)
- Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the folder icon on the top right
- Click Get started under Get help with Yelp Assistant
- Type out your request in the text box on the chat screen
For Non-Service Businesses (Restaurants, Retail Shops and Attractions)
From iPhone/iPad or Android
- Navigate to the business’ Yelp page
- Under Info click the Ask Yelp Assistant text box
- On the chat screen, either type in your question or select from one of the prompts
Your chat will remain active as long as you stay on the same business page. Navigating to a different business page will clear the existing chat log.
