How can we help?

What is Menu Vision?

Menu Vision is a feature in the Yelp mobile app that uses AI, augmented reality and text recognition to help users decide what to order or eat. By scanning a restaurant’s menu with Menu Vision, you’ll be shown photos of that menu item and related review information. Menu Vision also gives users insight on which dishes are popular at the business as indicated by the ‘Popular Dishes’ icon.

How does it work?

Menu Vision is available for restaurants, food and nightlife businesses that have at least five separate dish photos on their Yelp business page. If there are no photos for a specific dish, the feature will not surface a button for that item.

Menu Vision works best on printed and digital menus with clear text. Only English menus are supported at this time.

Please note that you must enable camera permissions to use Menu Vision. In order for Menu Vision to pop-up automatically the first few times you use it, you may have to enable location settings and be within 100 meters of the business.

To use Menu Vision:

  1. Open the business’s Yelp page on the mobile app
  2. Navigate to the the business’s Photos and Videos page
  3. At the top of the screen, tap Menu Vision on iPhone/iPad or the camera icon on the upper right corner for Android
  4. Tap Allow to enable camera access
  5. Point your device’s camera over the physical or digital menu to begin scanning
Once Menu Vision is finished scanning, you will see icons for individual menu items. When clicked, Menu Vision will show you photos of the selected item uploaded by business owners and other Yelp users.
